System Software Engineer

Business Unit:  Manufacturing R&D
Division:  Core R&D Lab
Department:  Mobile Robot Cell

Your Mission

This position is responsible for developing simulation platforms, virtual models, and testing methods to support the deployment and validation of mobile robot fleets across manufacturing and logistics environments. It requires a strong software engineering foundation and practical experience in real-time system modelling, simulation design, or platform development. Experience in game development, simulation, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, software systems, or applied research is relevant, while familiarity with advanced robotics simulation platforms such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim or Omniverse would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

What To Expect

  • Design and develop simulation software modules that model the behaviour of manufacturing and logistics systems and mobile robot fleets
  • Build modular, reusable simulation components that can be configured and deployed across different operational environments
  • Develop data pipelines, APIs, and connectors for integration with industrial systems, databases, middleware, and automation platforms
  • Apply simulation concepts such as event-driven systems, state machines, and continuous-time modelling to represent real-world operational behaviour
  • Support the development of digital twin models for robot fleets, logistics systems, and system interactions, including sim-to-real fidelity assessment
  • Work with simulation engines and frameworks such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Gazebo, Plant Simulation, AnyLogic, SimPy, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, or similar platforms to build and validate digital twins
  • Define test cases, acceptance criteria, KPIs, and methods for sim-to-real validation
  • Support technical documentation, software requirements, and engineering sprint reviews
  • Collaborate with robotics, automation, factory operations, data, and software teams
  • Prepare clear technical materials for internal stakeholders and management reporting

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience in simulation, real-time or autonomous systems, game engines, backend platforms, industrial automation, logistics software, or applied computational modelling
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++
  • Experience developing maintainable software, APIs, data pipelines, or simulation applications
  • Understanding of simulation concepts, including event-driven systems, state machines, time synchronisation, distributed systems, kinematics, motion dynamics, and rigid-body mechanics
  • Experience with simulation engines or frameworks such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Gazebo, AnyLogic, FlexSim, SimPy, Plant Simulation, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, or Omniverse
  • Experience with digital twin development, physical model validation, or sim-to-real workflows
  • Experience with SQL, data schemas, logs, time-series data, and data-quality validation
  • Experience with REST APIs, MQTT, gRPC, Protobuf, or other messaging and communication protocols
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2, URDF/SDF, robot model imports, or sensor simulation
  • Familiarity with AMR/AGV systems, fleet simulation, traffic control, or robot fleet management
  • Experience integrating with industrial and factory automation platforms such as MES, WMS, PLC, SCADA, and OPC UA, including communication standards such as VDA 5050
  • Experience with Docker, Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and engineering documentation
  • Exposure to automotive manufacturing, smart factories, logistics or warehouse automation, or industrial robotics
  • Ability to work effectively across software, operations, manufacturing, and cross-functional engineering teams
