Head of Technology Innovation Group

Business Unit:  Research & Development
Division:  Technology Innovation Group
Department:

Your Mission

This Group-level position is responsible for successfully transforming HMGICS into an automated and autonomous factory for the mass personalized production of mobility solutions, working closely with the Core R&D (new IP) and Manufacturing Innovation (production) Groups, under the HMGICS CIO, as well as HMG HQ groups.

Beyond leading the digital transformation, the role also includes codifying lessons learned, supporting the deployment of applicable technologies to HMG's global network of factories whenever required, and successfully fostering the skills and culture for agile innovation across multiple engineering disciplines, as well as the production environment.

What To Expect

Organize core departments (process innovation, data science/AI, manufacturing engineering, and digital systems/platforms) to meet three key objectives:

1. Digital Transformation

  • Maintain a strategic roadmap for the deployment of use cases to realize the vision of an automated and autonomous factory by 2027-2030, in close collaboration with other groups in CIO (Core R&D for IP readiness, production for validation).
  • Successfully execute the roadmap by delivering projects at an increasing pace in all key operational areas: supply chain, logistics, assembly, maintenance, and quality.
  • Further develop and reinforce processes (including Agile practices such as multidisciplinary project teams involving members of all departments and agile ceremonies) to enable faster, more rigorous, and more innovative execution of the transformation.
  • Drive change management to ensure sustainable adoption of new solutions, maximization of impact, and creation of referral cases for deployment in our global network of factories.
  • Promote a data-driven culture and approach to identify operational bottlenecks and system impediments. Foster a data-driven and business-led mindset to ensure use-case implementation results in a positive ROI both at HMGICS and across other HMG plants worldwide.

2. Technology Foundations

  • Maintain and continuously upgrade a strategic roadmap for establishing a cutting-edge technology backbone, enabling the rapid development of visualization, optimization, and orchestration use cases.
  • Drive the establishment of the technology backbone (foundations), including but not limited to IIOT, a unified data model and platform, and appropriate environments for AI/MLOps, simulations, and digital twins.
  • Formulate appropriate directions on "Make" vs "Buy and Develop" vs "Buy and Use" for HMGICS and the broader group to benefit from best-of-breed development tools while minimizing lock-in and maintaining control of solution development.

3. New Manufacturing Processes and New Car Models

  • Support production in preparing the factory to produce new car models. Drive process and technology improvements to continuously accelerate these processes.
  • Collaborate with HMG HQ to study potentially new manufacturing processes and drive their test bedding at HMGICS (initially outside of the production of current car models, but possibly as POC and then initial production).

What You'll Bring

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a discrete manufacturing environment, with expertise in technology and people management.
  • 15+ years in one or more of the following areas: operational and digital transformation, technology consulting & implementation, or business process re-engineering.
  • MBA (preferred), and a Master's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or Mathematics.
  • Preferred experience in the manufacturing and/or automotive industry, but not required. Strong exposure to discrete manufacturing is mandatory.
  • Experience with IIoT, Simulation, AI/ML, or Automation use-case deployments in any area (logistics, production, quality, maintenance, etc.) within a discrete manufacturing environment is mandatory.

Leadership Experience: Demonstrated senior leadership experience in:

  • Driving large digital transformation programs and delivering financial value.
  • Setting technology direction and establishing processes to deliver projects efficiently.
  • Navigating complex organizations and managing stakeholders & partners.
  • Driving collaborations with technology providers, both at foundational and tactical levels.
  • Creating a culture of excellence, rigor, and speed, e.g., through agile collaboration.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluent in English (written & spoken)
  • Fluency or willingness to learn Korean is a plus, given the global interactions involved in this role.
